L.A. city council to “force” LAAS to reinstate voucher program!

A huge thank you to Councilmembers, Parks, Smith, Alarcon, Cardenas, Weiss, Reyes and Zine for recognizing the importance of the voucher program in Los Angeles city and working for the restoration of the program.  Many members from rescue groups including Best Friends, Found Animal Foundation, Actors and Others, Whiskers and Tails and FixNation also took the day off work to show up to voice their opinons on just how important having a voucher program is for the people and the animals of Los Angeles.

The foundation of animal control is controlling the population of animals and that is only done through spaying and neutering.

We hope the program will be reinstated immediatly and that people can start once again receiving the help they need to spay and neuter their pets.

Spay Day LA is planning another free spay day coming soon and the site will be update to reflect that fact and allow people to make on line appointments.

Free Spay and Neuter-On going

The Stand Foundation is providing free spay and neuter to those unable to afford it until funds run out.  Surgeries will be performed at Clinico in Pico Rivera or Downey.  They will also examine, vaccinate and microchip your pet for no charge.  It’s a first come first serve offer, so don’t wait!  Preference is given to people living in the South Los Angeles area, but it is open to all.

To make an appointment, email The Stand Foundation directly with your name, phone number and type of pet as type of pet and they’ll get back to you asap.

Spay Day L.A. has provided free spay/neuter surgery for over 5000 pets

*L.A. City stops free/low cost spay/neuter program.

March 10, 2009 Los Angeles animal services stated they will no longer be providing financial assistance to those who can not afford to spay/neuter their pets only a few months after the city council passed a mandatory spay/neuter law.   We are appalled by this turn of events and would like to see the city council revoke the law.  The law was passed based on the promise that no resident of Los Angeles would be burdened because the city provided for those who could not comply.  Now those who are unable to afford the surgery for their pets are at risk of being fined and charged with a misdemeanor.  We are all for spaying and neutering and know that the vast majority of the population spay and neuter their pets by choice.  Spay Day L.A. will continue to provide free spay and neuter services to those who can not otherwise afford it, but we do not support any mandatory legislation.
